Keychron Q3 Max QMK/VIA Wireless Custom Mechanical Keyboard

Edit: After working together with support I can change my review of the keyboard back to being a positive one! Thankfully they were able to send me a new PCB to replace the defective one, and after some assembly the keyboard seems to be working as expected again. Happy I'm able to use my keyboard again, but surprised that for the price tag I would have to go through those efforts. All-in-all a great service, but not a 5 star because of the unfortunate hassle. Would definitely recommend the keyboard though!

Purchased this keyboard in late August, and at first, everything seemed great with this keyboard - it wasn't. In late January the issues started to arise, first a double register of a keystroke here, or a lack of registration from a keystroke there. The has only gotten worse since with no amount of firmware flashing, switch swapping or other troubleshooting leading to a resolution to the problems. I've never had these issues with any other keyboards, and it's a shame - I want to love this keyboard so much, but as someone who works with the keyboard all day, the frustration of dealing with these issues has pushed me to the breaking point.

I spend more time fixing typos caused by either the double keystrokes or lack of keystrokes than I do actually producing content with it.

Until Keychron actively addresses these issues, I can't recommend this keyboard.

Feels nice. Looks good. But tthe keyboard has a major issue with double typing keys. Out of the box, I have several keys that double type. I saw a review saying that but bought this keyboard anyway and now I am regretting it.

I unfortunately started getting the multiple key inputs issue less than a month into owning this keyboard. There are two fixes I've found here. First, press the key down *hard* so the switch clicks back into the socket, that way it's not bouncing. Sometimes they seem to get dislodged easily in this keyboard. Second, disable NKRO; function+n, by default. This is enabled by default and allows more key presses than normal, which can increase the "double click" issue.

As mentioned before, this keyboard is a joy to type on, feels great, and the lights are fantastic. It's a real shame that such a premium keyboard has such strong problems, and requires me to disable a premium feature to get the thing to work correctly. I love this keyboard, but my experience makes me hesitant to purchase higher end keychron keyboards without doing more research.

I have used many, many keyboards over the years (most recently coming from a Topre RealForce) and this is by far the best. Fantastic keyboard build quality, excellent keycaps profile, and super smooth Gateron Jupiter Banana switches. Love the layout, my fingers are hitting everything correctly without hesitation, increasing my typing speed a lot (fewer corrections). Re-programming key mappings was super easy.

Briefly swapped in Cherry MX2A RGB Silver Speed switches, but found the Gateron Bananas to be better (they were close though): smoother typing and slightly longer travel made for an overall better experience.

Highly recommend the Keychron Q3 Max!

I purchased this keyboard in June 2024. I needed a keyboard that could support multiple Bluetooth connections for all my devices. This one looked cool and ticked all my boxes. I was very excited when it arrived - everything from the packaging to the device itself looked very high quality. And for about two months I was very happy with what I got.

But then I noticed while gaming one night that something was off. I'd press a key to open a menu and then it would immediately close. I had to keep trying until it stayed open. Then the next day while working, I noticed that my E key was double typing. A short time later, another key started double typing. I found that remounting the switches helped, but this proved to be temporary. Keychron sent me some replacement switches to use when this happens, but I'm asking myself why this is even necessary for a keyboard that cost me over $200.

6 months later, I'm still seeing double typing issues pop up occasionally. This is a real shame. I've never experienced this issue with any other keyboard. I really want to like this thing, but this is a massive (and frankly, basic) flaw. I just can't recommend this keyboard - don't risk this issue for this price.
